単位模様と総刺しについてです。
まずは日本語でも、少し説明をしたいと思います。
おはようございます。
こぎん刺しのテディベア、ベアグッズ製作の、kogin＊bear style こひろです。
こぎん刺しには、ワンポイントで1つの模様を刺す単位模様と、広い布全体に刺す総刺しがあります。
単位模様は「Single pattern」、総刺しは「Whole embroidery (Souzahi)」と訳しました。
単位模様は、ピンクッションやアクセサリーの小物に使ったり、ワンポイントにしたいときに効果的。
総刺しは、バッグやポーチに刺すと迫力があります。

Kogin embroidery has two kind of pattern. ;Single pattern and whole embroidery.

“Single pattern”is to embroidery a separated pattern. Most of them are diamond shape.
There are many kind of pattern and each pattern has unique name. Embroidering small single patterns are good for biginers. If you want to make something small item like accessories or pin cushion , embroidering one single pattern will be nice.

To embroidery on the large cloth is called “Whole embroidery” called “Souzashi ” in Japanese.
Whole embroidery is consisted multiple single patterns connecting.
Fundamentally kogin was embroideried on kimonos,so they needed to expand patterns. The combination of patterns have a lot of variation.
The bags or pouches with whole kogin embroidery are very beautiful.

If you learned some single patterns, you will be able to do whole embroidery.
The easiest way is repeating same pattern on the whole.
There are so many combinations of kogin patterns,so thinking how to embroider is a lot of fun.
