久しぶりのEnglish article 、今日は、以前ブログでも紹介した「きくらこ」の意味についてです。

"Thinking about the meaning of kogin embroidery."
Most of the name of kogin pattern came from Tsugaru dialect.
I think some name of kogin pattern sounds strange.
For example,"Kacharazu"is the smallest diamondshape.I was not able to know why this pattern is called such name.
In Tsugaru dialect,"kacha"means opposite side of object and "-razu"means deny.
So "Kacharazu"means "It is not opposite side".
Because "Kacharazu" looks like the opposite side of "Mameko(beans)"pattern,Kacharazu may be named.
I wondered what is "Kikurako".It is also name of kogin pattern.
Seeing this pic,you will find the pattern cross on the center of it.
Because we don't use the word Kikurako usually,it seems one of the dialect or old Japanese word.
I posted this question on SNS.Then some people taught at twitter and Facebook.
According to these comments,"Kikura" means "bending something,especially to bend legs".
"Kikurako" is shaped the form of bending legs.
It is very interesting for me to look up the name or meaning of pattern.
I've not found the meaning of "Yasuko-sashi" yet.I don't know what "Yasuko" means.
Though it seems that one of the woman's name,but in this case it not right.
I want to look up about it.
I'll think and research about kogin embroidery and post on blog and SNS.
