少し時間が空いてしまいましたが、こぎんの英文エッセイです。
今回は、こぎんの模様を、私が刺したこぎんの写真を使いながらいくつかご紹介します。

■The pattern of kogin embroidery
Kogin embroidery has many patterns.Now I’d like to introduce some main patterns.
The young girls before marrige in an agricultural area of Tsugaru area learn how to stitch various geometric patterns.
Each patterns have the name from flower,animals,insects and so on.Some of them called in the name of Tsugaru dialect.
I stitched all kogin embroidery of following pictures.
Tekonako;
Tekonako means butterfly in Tsugaru dialect.
In Japan the butterfly's pattern signify longevity.
A plum blossom ;
A plum blossom is an early spring flower.
It's also known as a good auspicious pattern with pine, bamboo in Japan
Danburiko;
A dragonfly called "Danburiko" in Tsugaru dialect.
A dragonfly is a good luck charm for the victory.
Because it fly only forward.
Neko-no-managu;
"Managu" means eyes in Tsugaru dialect.
This pattern shapes cat's eye.
Kurubi-kara;
"Kurubi-kara"means a shell of walnuts.
This pattern express the cross section of walnut fruit divided into two.
This embroidery was stitched by the thread dyed with walnuts.
It's fantastic color as if forest in the fairytale.
